Longtime Centennial resident Eddie McGrady, 77, passed away March 12, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.
Eddie was born on June 23, 1941 in Delta, Colorado to James and Edna McGrady as the fifth oldest of eight. He graduated from Denver West High School in 1959, then proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps until 1963. After leaving the service he started working for Denver Public Schools in their maintenance department. He married the love of his life, Carol Wallis McGrady, in May of 1967. At the end of 35 years at DPS he retired as supervisor of the carpentry and paint departments.
Eddie entered the Masonic family in 1978 by joining Centennial Lodge. His various activities include: Black Hawk Lodge, Henry Taylor #57 RAM, Arapahoe Council Cryptic Masons, St Bernard #41, Front Range #288 Allied Masonic Degrees, Red Cross of Constantine, Royal Order of Scotland, Kincora Council #8, El Jebel Legion of Honor, Past Master of Kadosh, president of the Consistory Board, 33rd degree Mason, past Grand Tiler, Memorial Lodge life member, and member of the Sword of Bunker Hill. Eddie was very proud of his accomplishments as a Mason.
In addition to his Masonic activities, Eddie enjoyed hunting, fishing, gambling, and bargain hunting. Eddie’s greatest joy in life was the time he was able to spend with his family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. His four grandchildren were the apple of his eye. Eddie had a heart of gold and often went out of his way to help others and make sure everyone was taken care of.
Eddie is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carol, children Matthew (Shannon) McGrady and Susan (Jamie) Romero; his four grandchildren Tyler, Tiffany, Samantha, and Mia; sisters Helen Hayes, Maxine Shaw, Margaret Rosa, and brother Ray McGrady; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Edna, brother Merle McGrady, and sisters Shirley Martindale and Frances Clanton.
There will be a memorial service in honor of Eddie McGrady Sunday, March 24th at 2:00 pm at the Highlands Masonic Temple.
